Diversity

IRCOM House works with people from many diverse backgrounds.

Our programs benefit greatly from the wide range of experiences, opinions, and networks that our staff bring to IRCOM with them. Among the staff alone, approximately 20 languages are spoken, which facilitates conversation with the clients we serve. These languages include English, French, Spanish, Rohingya, Kinyarwanda, Bilen, Hausa, Amharic, Arabic, Oromo, Tigrinya, Dari, Farsi, Sango, Swahili, Somali, and others. IRCOM is an equal-opportunity employer and has staff from around the world.

“Everyone comes from different backgrounds and this is what makes us a great team.”
Diversity is also a great asset among the tenants of IRCOM. With 112 suites available, IRCOM has tenants from more than 20 different countries of origin. IRCOM frequently has tenants from Afghanistan, Burma, Burundi, Chad, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Eritrea Nigeria, Rwanda, Syria, Somalia and Sudan. Tenants come with a rich variety of expertise from their respective cultures that adds flavour and variety to the IRCOM community. At any given time, tenants at IRCOM may speak between 20-30 different languages and dialects.
“When I’m at IRCOM, I feel like I’m not in Winnipeg anymore.”
IRCOM celebrates its diversity at every possible opportunity, often through the inclusion of traditional foods and music. Every year IRCOM holds a Summer Celebration, complete with games, food, and cultural performances by tenants and Indigenous neighbours in celebration of the arrival of warm weather and the multicultural atmosphere we enjoy.
“I love to travel, but when I can’t afford the plane ticket I just come down to IRCOM. It’s an international experience without leaving the city!”
